Before the music dies

This should be an exiting time in the history of the music business. There seem to be more bands and more ways to discover their music than ever before, yet the vast majority of the music played on the radio and for sale at retail stores seems packaged and repetitive.

Finally, there’s a documentary that examines the reasons why this is so. ‘BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES’ is a stunning personal account of today’s American music machine at this time in our lives. To make this documentary, filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussenof traveled the country, hoping to understand what has happened to mainstream music.

With commentary by music industry icons such as Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews, Elvis Costello, Erykah Badu, Branford Marsalis, Bonnie Raitt and others, ‘BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES’ takes a critical look at the homogenization of popular music and questions whether corporations really have the power to silence musical innovation.
